As the U.S. wine industry continues to flourish in both quality and quantity, exporting offers an opportunity for expanding markets, boosting sales, and increasing profits for producers of U.S. wine and winegrapes.
With 95% of the world’s consumers located outside the United States, wine producers and grape growers can strengthen their sales and grow their business by exporting. The numbers illustrate the vast potential: In 2023, U.S. wine exports totaled 57.6 million gallons, valued at $1.23 billion. The top international destination for U.S. wine is right next door in Canada, followed by markets in Europe, Asia, and Mexico.
The prospect of selling internationally may sound daunting, particularly for the small businesses and family farmers that comprise much of the American wine industry, but they don’t need to do it alone. You can find a path to global success by tapping into resources that are available to help at every step along the way.
The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) provides trade finance tools that can help small businesses such as farms and wineries compete successfully in the dynamic global marketplace, including:
- Export Credit Insurance that covers up to 95% of an invoice to protect against the risk of not getting paid. It also allows you to extend favorable credit terms to international buyers.
- Working Capital Loan Guarantees that provide necessary cash flow.
To find out how EXIM and our government partners can help wine producers and grape growers become more profitable by selling worldwide, check out this resource page here: https://grow.exim.gov/wine. When it comes to supporting American small businesses, we’re here to toast your success!
